WEDDING INFORMATION AND REGULATIONS 2008
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
WAYNESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
CEREMONY:
A church wedding is an act of Christian worship. For this reason, all facets of the ceremony, including music, must be appropriate for Christian worship. The entire ceremony must reflect the best tradition of the Christian faith, and the theology and values of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville.
1. We assume that the request to use church facilities reflects a desire for a Christian ceremony. Everything done in the wedding must be appropriate for Christian worship.
2. Use of a minister other than a member of our church staff must receive the approval of our Senior Pastor. Any couple wishing to be married in our facility must receive premarital counseling before the wedding ceremony. Use of a counselor other than a staff member of Waynesville First Baptist Church must be approved by the Senior Pastor of our church.
3. If a minister of this church is not going to perform the wedding ceremony, the pastor or an associate pastor must approve the ceremony and the music at least six weeks prior to the wedding date. If the couple plans to use non-traditional vows, they must submit a complete script to our church’s pastor at least one (1) month before the wedding.
4. Both members and non-members of our church must use one of our wedding coordinators. Members or non-members may use their own wedding coordinators in addition to our church’s coordinator. The church office will assign one of our coordinators to the wedding party, and that coordinator will meet with them, guide them through our scheduling process, and collect all fees. The coordinator will assist with details pertinent to planning a ceremony reflective of our wedding policy, and provide the wedding party with proper representation during the planning and execution of the wedding. The role of our wedding coordinator is not to be that of a bridal consultant. Instead, our coordinator is to be a liaison and representative of the church. The coordinator’s responsibilities end when the bride leaves the sanctuary/chapel for the reception.
MUSIC:
1. Organist/Pianist/Instrumentalist: We expect the wedding party to offer our church organist/pianist the opportunity to play for all weddings where music is desired; however, a guest organist/pianist may be used with the approval of our music minister. This approval must be obtained at least one (1) month before the wedding. Our church organist/pianist will be available for consultation concerning the choice of music and the use of the instruments.
2. Music for Christian marriages: As noted above, all music used in the wedding must be appropriate for a Christian worship service. If the wedding is to be performed by a minister of our church, the minister must approve the music six weeks before the wedding. If the wedding is to be performed by a minister who is not from our church, our music minister must approve the music six weeks before the wedding.
3. Vocal or Instrumental Music: Music or vocal selections that are clearly secular in their celebration of love may be sung at a reception.
RESERVATION OF FACILITIES:
1. The bride or groom, or either of their families, is responsible for reserving our facilities by contacting the church secretary. The church secretary will arrange for one of our wedding coordinators to meet with those seeking the wedding and guide them in filling out our Wedding Information and Reservation Form.
